Betty in Kenya
-It looks like Betty and Washington might be having too much fun on the playground! Who is ready to fill that third swing for a mission trip later in 2024, or start planning for 2025?
-Betty is shown here with Teresa, who handles logistics like kids school registry, some doctor visits, ensuring kids have clothing they need, and takes on secretary/treasurer roles as well!
-Betty first spent time in Nairobi finding and buying a good used vehicle for NLCPM; then visited multiple churches previously planted in Siaya, with more church visits planned during her trip.Birthday Party!
-Betty’s been planning for months to throw a PARTY to celebrate ALL THE KIDS birthdays! If you purchased items from Betty’s Amazon Wish List, you may see them given here!
There were 6 cakes so each could have a BIG slice. They sang, then danced to music!
Many of the kids have never celebrated a birthday. Cake and soda are delicacies!
Betty said almost all of them had never received a birthday gift. (Until now!)
THANK YOU DONORS for blessing these kids with reasons to smile!
Chickens and eggs
-At our farm, the chickens came first! But the great news is, we now have eggs!
The kids had a dinner of eggs, sukuma wiki (greens) and ugali (like cornmeal/grits). This is a wonderful new source of protein for the kids’ diets. The goal is also to increase the chicken and eggs to enable selling eggs in the future, another step towards self-sufficiency.
Road and other reports
-Road report: we have a real, current need for road improvement into NLCPM land.
The road becomes totally impassable in rain due to deep mud. It takes days to dry for driving.
This is untenable – in case of medical emergencies, plus simply to enable mission work.
$16,000 USD to $25,000 USD are the bids so far; so we humbly ask for help for the road!
-School term: was FULLY FUNDED. Thank you, donors! The start of this term is being delayed 1 week until next Monday due to the recent severe rains and flooding in much of Kenya.
-Solar: with all the rainy/cloudy days recently, there was 1 night that the solar electric ran out of reserve battery power. That is the 1 single electrical outage so far; still working well!
-Funds to purchase a special long power cord: RECEIVED. This cord can run the water pump to move water from the pond to the farm’s gravity tank, to then water the crops.
-Crops update after rains: a few banana trees went down but were able to be put back up. There have been 2 dry days just now; so if the rain stops now, they still expect a good harvest.
-Please continue prayers about the 3 commercial buildings that were very recently completed! We hope to find meaningful usages that move both the orphanage towards self sufficiency, as well as help the kids aging into adulthood in future years towards personal financial self sufficiency (for example learning trades and working in specific jobs).
