New kids!

We have taken in another 5 kids this month, as we continue to be on a mission to help orphaned and abandoned kids!!! One group is 3 siblings who were living with their grandmother who recently passed away. They have no information about their father, and their mother left the country 9 years ago to look for work and hasn’t been communicating with them in recent years. Welcome home, kiddos!!!

The others are a pair of 2 siblings whose mother is in a coma in the local hospital, so there is some chance they might return to her in the future. This is a uniquely different situation that we have not encountered before now. At this time, the kids have no other family to care for them, so we say “Welcome home, kiddos!”. A neighbor had been helping them for 2 months when the mother had gone into a coma, but can no longer care for the kids long-term.

The tribal chief of the local area is made aware of these kinds of situations; and, he came and asked Bishop Washington if they could come live at the home. We are blessed to be a blessing to them!

Invitation to help

-If you enjoy knowing EXACTLY where your dollars are spent, then please click to see the Amazon Wish List and help fill suitcases with items that will go directly to Kenya on the mission trip in late September! You will see the plan is to take first aid items and packable toys. We see that something like 1 tylenol pill can cost $3 in Kenya and the toys received during the last trip were perhaps the first toy many had ever owned.

-We invite you to FINISH THE ROAD into the compound: about $5000 more is needed. We pray funds will arrive so the work can progress while Betty and Avis are there at the end of September through all of October.

-Please pray we can fund these projects, and pray for the mission trip in late September!

Projects completed this month

1. We have the rainwater roof filtration system for drinking water now built! This is an exciting step to securing that most important necessity of clean water. See the tanks arriving, here:

> Now, the guttering is on, screens are on, connections to holding tanks, with multiple large tanks on concrete platforms. Our goal to complete this before the rainy season was accomplished, and now we wait for the rain to come (rainy season may begin late October). We look forward to collecting this water for drinking and cooking. We hope the end of purchasing purified water is near, and we will see a return on this investment in 18 months as projected!

2. Much work was done on the farm while the kids were on their 3 week school break in August. They helped with harvesting beans, weeding in the sukuma wiki beds and in the tomatoes, and planted papaya trees. We pray for a good harvest!

More updates

-Since Monday, the kids are back in school for the third trimester of the year! Thank you, donors, for making their schooling possible. They truly would not be educated without you.

-The garage style building is completed to protect the Tuk-Tuk, the van Washington drives, and the SUV for missionaries. Please see an image here:

>> Plus…

-Derick, the 22yo social worker intern, has turned in his university reports and returned already to continue helping with the kids! Now we pray he might stay long-term!

-The gas station and convenience store are returning a small profit and creating jobs.

-The group of local pastors in Kenya who committed to help the kids continue to donate funds each month!

-The protests continue on a smaller scale, mostly in larger cities, and mostly by students. We are thankful the turmoil has reduced somewhat and the kids’ location is safe.
