Girls dorm completed!

What a joy it is to report that you made it possible to complete NOT ONE, but TWO permanent and beautiful brick buildings for orphaned and abandoned kids in Kenya! See the new dorm pictured below. We want these girls to know:

My Father is King of heaven and earth, I am a daughter of royal birth.

My spirit was born in the courts on high, a child beloved, a PRINCESS am I. (By: Anna Johnson)

One of our princesses, Juliet, recently had a very scary experience. At the time it seemed she might have a chest blockage and was nearly dying; meanwhile there was so much rain that the last part of the road into the dorms was impassable except on foot. Bishop Washington personally carried her in his arms nearly 2 miles at 3AM to be able to access help. What a testament to how he loves the kids and how God is enabling him to care for them! She was admitted and later diagnosed with asthma and severe malaria. We are so thankful to report: she has made a full recovery and is doing well. Here is Juliet now ready again for a school day!

We are also getting bids to improve the dirt road accessing the property so it will be consistently passable even in extreme weather, as this area is very prone to having.

More good news

-We asked, you answered!

     1. All new mud boots were purchased for the kids, especially for walking to school on the muddy roads.

     2. More chairs for the dining/study hall; AND, new tables were funded and now look at this nice hall to enjoy:

-A whole new church building!

After moving to the charity (NLCPM) -owned land a few miles away from Bishop Washington’s mothers land, there was no longer a meeting space for the onsite church besides using the kids dining/study hall. A generous donor learned of this predicament and wanted to immediately fund a new church building in our new permanent location! WOW! This helps maintain an important separation to keep the community outside of the orphanage area; and provides more safety for the kids at their home and for dining/study. We are so thankful.

-Solar power was installed!

We learned last year the local Kenyan electric company would charge an exorbitant amount of money to run power lines to the property. Also, the local Kenyan electric is so prone to power outages that the people nearly count on being without power once or multiple times per week. The idea of building our own onsite solar system became more attractive, yet the cost was still a large one to consider, especially amidst all the other building projects happening in recent months. A donor has stepped in to supply the entire system, from solar panels to the “power house” – a 10 by 10 building. Incredible! This is a game changer for the kids and staff. See the panels on a dorm, and “power house”.

With this new power source, we highlight two improvements we could make with your help:

     1. For $210 USD, we can purchase a very long power cord (100 meters) to run to the water pump; to move water from the pond into the farm’s gravity tank.  It has been costing 4000 KSH (Kenya Shillings) or ~$26 for the gas to run the water pump; which should be run about twice a week (8 times a month). So, this basically pays for itself in a month!

     2. For $380 USD, we can wire inside 3 of the buildings that were never wired, and run lights: the dining/study hall, the “kitchen” (cooking room), and the storage room building (originally for the building materials, and now holds food supplies, etc.).

Pure fun
The kids enjoyed a bouncy house rental early in February.

While originally intended for Christmas break, the move changed our timing; but no matter the date, it was pure fun! We are so thankful your donations directly enabled these kids to have a day of FUN.
