Welcome home

We are blessed to report we have 3 new kids this January, total orphans whose parents died in a road accident. Then, they were staying with their grandmother; who recently passed away. Finally, they were living in their parents’ home, by themselves. A “Good Samaritan”, who is a dentist in the area, knew about them and was taking them food. This person learned about our children’s home and contacted Washington, and we agreed to welcome them home!

CLEAN Water

We are thrilled to see these tanks installed on property! This is a huge expansion of our capacity to collect and store rainwater, primarily for drinking and cooking. Access to CLEAN WATER is an incredible security for the kids in a place where it is so scarce.

>> Please see the images of the 12 large water tanks installed on property: 1. girls dorm (3 tanks), 2. other end of girls dorm (2), 3. boys dorm (3), 4. other end of boys dorm (2), dining/study hall (2 tanks). We kept the small one for future garage rebuild.

Dry season started right after Christmas, so the installation timing did not allow for the new tanks to become full from the recent rainy season. We expect next time through a rainy season we will store enough with the ideal never to run out.

Back to school

Through your gifts, God provided ALL the funds needed for this first term of the Kenyan 2025 school year! If you recall, our “BIG ASK” in the December newsletter was for about $10,000 to make that happen.

We noted the rising costs included 1. more kids (total of 78 in our care!), 2. kids aging up, for which school is more expensive, 3. paying for uniforms and supplies in January term, and 4. our desire to place certain older kids into boarding schools or trade schools to maximize their future opportunities.

>> Please enjoy 2 images of some of our kids now at boarding school with supplies; and, a group of middle schoolers ready for the new term.

Other updates

1. Washington has reported they are low on sukuma wiki. This is a typical daily staple food, similar to collard greens; pictured recently, below, of seedlings growing on the farm. With last year’s extreme weather, the sukuma wiki crop did not last the full year. Donations to add to the monthly food budget would be greatly appreciated!

2. We would like to increase our dining/study hall chair count to 100 from 69 if anyone would like to give about $210. These are plastic stacking chairs and they occasionally break; plus, we simply have more kids and there are always adults onsite. We have the idea of labeling chairs with the kids’ names so they can take ownership of keeping their chair in good shape; but they must first each have one!

3. Great news from a revival/convention where Washington spoke … we believe many souls were saved and many more revived!
