Missions trip
Betty Bartholomew, Avis Goodheart, Fred Miller, and Leighton Kasper are in Kenya working alongside Washington Ayugi, the local director and Bishop. They are working tirelessly to give the 65 orphaned and abandoned kids in our care a hope and a future.
The four missionaries will have been in-country over a month, and their flights back to the USA start October 12. Betty and Avis would love invitations to speak!

Highlights
Clothing: The kids received new clothes! Those most in need of clothing received an outfit, and most children received 2-3 pairs of underwear. Some kids did not receive new underwear because funds ran out; yet Betty noted they could get what is needed for another $50 (there is an opportunity now to give directly to this need!).
The primary school age kids wear plastic shoes for school, and those from January are completely worn out. For the 40 kiddos, at $3.50 per pair, $140 would cover the cost if someone wished to donate that! All ages of kids have a pair of Croc style shoes and those are also worn out; if someone gave $200 it would cover 64 kids *$3.10 per pair. (The baby does not yet need shoes, that’s why it’s 64 not 65 kids!)
Dorms: So much has been accomplished on the new buildings! The brick building that will be the boy’s dorm is under roof now. See the progress!
The second brick building, which will be the girl’s dorm, has the concrete foundation done and bricks are being laid for the exterior walls … we hope to move onto more steps soon, as additional donations arrive.
Leighton, Betty, Fred, Avis, Washington celebrate the girls’ dorm progress!
The sheet metal style building, above, was built nearby the new brick dorms. It is storing building materials and will become their kitchen when the dorms are completed.
We are so excited to be creating a permanent place for needy kids!
Pond: the pond has been nearly doubled in size from the first creation this March! This should fill the needs for personal and the farm’s use. The smaller one went dry in the last dry season. The required fencing around the pond , to protect people and livestock from drowning, is completed. Due to the importance of this basic need for water, it was prioritized to finish the pond (and fence) before the rainy season (it’s starting now), so it is ready to capture water! This retention basin is ~ 300 ft by 190 ft by 18 ft deep; and should hold 6 million gallons of water when full. 2 images below.
o Farm: excitement for the coming year is rising, thanks to the promise of water! Corn, maize, beans, and skuma-wiki (a Kenyan staple, like collard greens) plus some sugar canes and about 30 banana trees are all planted. See the banana trees in the field on Jehovah Jireh farm, above.
Healing miracle onsite
A woman about age 70 felt the Holy Spirit was speaking to her to come to the church onsite where Washington preaches and all the kids attend. Ever since a motorbike accident ~ 5 years ago she’s been in pain and having a hard time walking. She came to church, was prayed for, and since that day has testified she is not in pain and is walking stable! Amen! (Photo below: the kids in the church)
