Mission Trip in progress now!
– Avis Goodheart and Betty Bartholomew arrived safely in Kenya.
>>> Be sure to read next month’s October newsletter as we’ll have LOADS of updates as they review and report on so many aspects of what’s happening with the kids, the farm, goats/sheep/chickens, gas station and convenience store, other commercial buildings, the dorms and solar system, the pond and new drinking water systems!
– First, Betty and Avis met with Washington upon arriving in Nairobi and went to visit a woman named Riley from Branson, Missouri who lives full-time in Kenya operating a school. It could make sense for us to operate our own school, in our Kendu Bay project, in the long-term and so it was good to learn about her work. It’s always great to connect and hear from other missionaries and encourage each other! Pictured at the school, from left: Bishop Washington, Betty, Avis, Riley.
– Next, they made it home, and received lots of hugs!
– Avis and Betty purchased umbrellas in Nairobi with some cash donations they received, and took them to the kids in preparation for the rainy season. And, suckers for treats!
THANK YOU
– We shared an Amazon Wish List asking for mission trip donations in the last letter and YOU WERE SO GENEROUS … Thank you! All of the medicines were purchased, and a wonderful array of toys as well. We can’t wait to share pictures of kids getting toys in the next newsletter. There are harmonicas, fidget bracelets, mini bouncy balls, beach balls, jump ropes, finger puppets, yo-yos, and even vacuum-packed teddy bears!
– We asked to FINISH THE ROAD for fundraising last month and THE ROAD IS FUNDED!
>> Avis and Betty expect to oversee the road being built while onsite. Betty has learned they need to have a surveyor come first, which is planned within the next 2 days, then the road contractor will start after that; and he says it will be completed in 1 week from start to finish.
>> This road is imperative for any medical emergency, and creates an inviting situation for future missionaries, and simply enables general getting around day to day for kids and adults!
More updates
1. The kids continue to enjoy the playground equipment. What a blessing!
2. The kids are well fed, and have tables and chairs to relax in the dining/study hall.
3. The drinking water system (rainwater gutters, filters, tanks) is reported to be working great! Betty said the tanks are over half full now. This should start a monthly money savings, in lieu of buying drinking water.
4. We have another fun story about Avis and Betty leaving Arkansas last week. One of our donors sent a potholder earlier in the month that she made, and asked if the ladies cooking in Kenya would enjoy more of those. They thought yes, that would be great to have, but with the timing of the trip and the need for the potholders to be made and mailed it might not work out this time around. Well, wouldn’t you know it, they were made, mailed and got to the Go Ye Ministries PO Box just in time to make it into their suitcases! Now those potholders are halfway around the world on their way to bless some cooks 🙂
