1. Water and Farm Update

Friends, we’re reaching out with heavy hearts this month. The rains in Kendu Bay, Kenya still have not come, and Washington shared that he cannot remember a time when it stayed dry for this long. Every water tank on the property is empty. The team is now purchasing drinking water and continually using the tuk-tuk to haul lake water for all other uses (washing, bathing, etc). It’s taking a real toll on everyone.

The farm is suffering: the sukuma wiki has completely dried out and will need to be purchased starting next week. Nothing is being planted now because of the prolonged dry season. Until the rains begin, there will be significant challenges, and we are praying for relief to come soon!

2. Celebrating Our Form 4 Graduates

In the midst of this hardship, we are so proud to celebrate four wonderful Form 4 (high school) graduates this year. Each of these young men have grown in faith, character, and maturity.

Michael – Washington’s oldest son. Michael hopes to study business management, and in the meantime, he is working faithfully alongside his father. We are praying he could be Washtington’s successor at the orphanage; as he has spoken about! In Kenya, graduates find out in late December if they have qualified for college or University, then wait a full year before they can start.

Victor – Moses’ son. Victor lives with Moses, who oversees the farm and much of the daily operations. We have supported Victor’s schooling as a way of honoring Moses’ tremendous service. Victor hopes to become an electrician.

Sterphern – A total orphan with dreams of attending university and becoming a doctor. He is very bright with good grades, and still lives onsite. He is working at the gas station as a pump attendant which cuts the cost for paying someone else, meanwhile we give him a small stipend to help him start saving for his own future.

Gillack – A partial orphan, who has a paralyzed mother, who could not support or care for him at younger ages. Now that he graduated, he comes to the compound a few times a week to train kids on keyboard. He also wants to go to university and his dream is to be a nurse.

All four of these grads – are saved, baptized, and truly remarkable young men! When we learn their university admission testing results, we can share how to support their next steps.

3. A Call for Christmas & New Year Donations

• Christmas Celebrations

We would love to give the children a special holiday meal—likely a beef or chicken stew, plus a soda for each, a rare treat—and a fun outing as the big gift this year: a boat ride! Please remember, you may direct any donation to a specific item or event, or to general funds.

• January School Fees & Supplies

January is the most expensive month of the year for schooling in Kenya. Tuition, new uniforms, supplies, fees, and increased costs as children age into middle school, high school, or trade school make it a significant financial hurdle each year. Last January our need was over $5,000. As we have said many times, there is no free schooling available in Kenya, so it is a real gift we can give them with lasting impact.

• Extra Food & Water Support

Because of the failed crops and dry conditions, we know food and water expenses will be much higher than usual. Any help with these essentials is deeply appreciated.

4. And More

• Please also keep Washington’s brother, Don, in your prayers for healing; as he is in poor health – and may have issues in his liver, throat, plus losing weight for no reason.

• Enjoy this photo of one of the kids we put through high school and college. She now has two girls of her own and is doing well! (Taken on the last mission trip.)

• We can’t thank you enough for your prayers, kindness, and generosity.
