1. Christmas Joy
The kids were able to have some Christmas joy, thanks to your generosity. Not only did they enjoy a treat of a meal with meat and a soda, they also had fun with balloons, pictured here!

2. Return to School

January in Kenya means a return to school – for those who can pay for it! We are thankful we enable orphaned and abandoned kids to receive an education that can hopefully change the rest of their lives. A large amount of funds was sent and paid for first term school fees, plus the required uniforms and supplies. In Kenya, the school year runs concurrent with the calendar year. Please enjoy these wonderful photos of the kids in uniform.

3. Considering an On-Site SchoolAs we think about this new school year for Kenya, we are prayerfully considering starting an on-site school for the children over time. Many currently walk long distances to attend school, are required to attend at least six days a week, and are unprotected with safety concerns along the way. It is also a large cost that could perhaps be directed to hiring our own teachers and buying supplies. When Betty and Avis visited last year, they observed that some schools have dirt floors, no electricity, and very limited resources. We now have a Kenyan certified teacher who is willing to help us begin, possibly starting with one class for the youngest children and expanding as the children grow. While the logistics/requirements are yet unknown, and details undecided, we greatly appreciate your prayers for wisdom in this possible next step.

4. Ongoing Concerns:

Continued Lack of Rain

The continued lack of rain in Kenya is creating serious challenges. The water tanks are empty, and no sukuma wiki is being grown. Drinking water is being purchased, and the tuk-tuk is used to transport water from the lake for other daily needs. We are also buying sukuma wiki instead of growing it, resulting in increased daily expenses for food and water. Please be praying earnestly for the rains to return!

Gas Station and Convenience Store
We have not yet made any final decisions regarding the gas station and convenience store after the tragedy of the robbery, and the horrific beating of our security guard who later died at the hospital. We continue to prayerfully consider this situation. While this business previously made a small profit and provided employment, restarting operations would require a significant investment, and the risks remain high if we did re-open. It seems that selling the business, building and equipment may be the wisest choice at this time.

We remain deeply grateful for your support.
