1. Job Training: Welding Apprenticeships

We are thrilled to share that some of our teenage boys have started a welding apprenticeship this year! This opportunity allows them to gain hands-on experience and valuable job training that will help them build a future career. Learning a skilled trade like welding opens doors for employment and financial independence. We’ve included pictures of them at their training site so you can see their progress firsthand.

2. Clean Water –  Thanks to Full Tanks!

We are incredibly grateful that our water tanks, installed just a couple months ago, are now full thanks to the rainy season! This means we have a steady supply of clean water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning—something that is essential for the health and well-being of the children. Having reliable water access reduces the risk of illness and makes daily life much easier for everyone at the orphanage. See our photos enjoying this blessing!

3. Efforts Toward Self-Sufficiency

A key part of our mission is working toward long-term self-sufficiency, and we continue with that goal in mind. On the farm, our sukuma wiki plants are nearly ready for harvest (first image) and new maize crops have been planted to provide food for the coming months (second image). Farming not only helps feed the children but also teaches valuable agricultural skills.

In addition to the farm, our gas station and convenience store continue to operate successfully, generating a small monthly profit while also creating employment opportunities. The business currently supports the salaries of a convenience store associate and a gas pump attendant (one of our recent grads!).

4. Health Challenges and Supporting Washington’s Family

March has been a tough month in some ways, with different children falling ill and needing hospital care. Thanks to your generous support, we were able to get them the medical attention they needed. At the same time, Washington’s wife is expecting and has been experiencing health challenges during her pregnancy. This has been a difficult time for them, and we ask for your prayers and support. Washington is helping care for so many kids as well as his wife!

5. Mission Trip & Ways to Help

Avis Goodhart and Betty Bartholomew will be returning on a mission trip to Kenya in July. If you’re interested in joining, please reach out! It’s a wonderful opportunity to assist with projects and connect with the children.

We have a need for new mattresses, blankets, and sheets for kids. Over time, these items become worn out or soiled, and replacing them ensures the kids have a clean and comfortable place to sleep. If you’d like to give a specific gift toward one item or a set, you can designate funds as you like. We have estimated costs per item at $40 per mattress, plus blanket and sheet set for $10, or a whole new bed (mattress, blanket, sheets) for $50. The full need is about $2000, but we can change these out one at a time! It’s a great chance to give to a tangible item.

We are seeking donations toward school fees and supplies for the upcoming second school term, starting in late April. The first term of the school year is coming to an end, and the children will have a three-week break during which all children—including those in boarding school—will be home together. When the second term starts, there is a large payment required … As we’ve said, there is no free education in Kenya. We are blessed to enable these kids to get schooling!

Thank you for being part of this mission!

Your generosity makes everything we do possible, from education and healthcare to farming and job training!
