Our summer missionaries – Avis, Betty, Cricket – are all safely home! Thank you for praying! Stay tuned for October’s letter for more joyous news from the mission team.

1. House in a day

Cricket shared her special memory of the recent mission trip was building a house in 1 day for a widow. “The boys let me have a machete so I could cut and trim branches for walls, then I carried the trees to the house where kids were building the frame.” In Kenya, there are widows living in unimaginable conditions compared to USA standards. While we focus on helping orphaned and abandoned children, our teens and older children also learn to provide help in their community by helping widows.

Enjoy the images of this house built in a day: collecting sticks to build the stick/mud/dung walls, Cricket with the widow awaiting her home, kids and teens who helped build the home, plus furniture delivery on motorbike. We are blessed to be a blessing!

2. Help for widows

During the mission trip while seeing the suffering of  local widows, the mission team decided to step in and provide certain items for some women. One had no bed as it had been stolen from her home, so a new bed was given. Next, the woman pictured below with Bishop Washington had a bad infection, so money was given for medicine and for a doctor to continue some visits to provide an injected medicine.

Each of these widows, below, were given furniture to have a place to comfortably sit.

It’s hard for us to imagine these situations, and we appreciate our missionaries seeing a dire need and filling it!

3. Property improvements galore

Our missionaries were able to oversee many property improvements made possible by your generous gifts. THANK YOU! First, the kitchen building received a new roof and new stove with 4 “burners”, which are literally 4 wood burning fire spaces.

The dining/study hall building received a new concrete floor! This will improve cleanliness.

The entire property is now fenced … all the way around our farm acres! This keeps kids safe.

Stone was placed where the river comes up to the corner of the property. In the last flood the dirt under the fence washed out, so a post needed to be reset; and this should stop washing our property away in this area.

4. Dress a Girl
We want to shout-out our thanks to the organization Dress a Girl Around the World! They sent so many beautiful clothing items to Kenya with our missionaries this past trip. One of the cutest things was (at least!) 45 dresses plus 45 stuffed animals for those dress pockets (see girls singing in church). In total, over 135 total outfits were sent to our girls: dresses or shorts/pants with shirt, plus underwear. We appreciate their generosity and love partnering with them!

AND, they plan to donate again for a 2027 Mission Trip!

Betty and Avis are planning a return to Kenya in April 2027.

Who wants to get in on the next mission trip?
